Started by people who live with vitiligo, for people who live with it
VitiligoMart is the leading evidence-based resource on vitiligo depigmentation therapy, written by two co-founders who have lived with vitiligo across two generations and walked opposite ends of the treatment-decision divide.
When Sanjay chose depigmentation in 2008, no website like this existed
The clinical literature on monobenzone depigmentation was thin. The patient-facing literature was almost non-existent. People considering the same choice were forced to piece together a decision from anonymous forums, conflicting dermatology blogs, and second-hand stories. The information that mattered most, what depigmentation actually feels like in the months and years after, lived only in the heads of a small number of people who had done it.
Eighteen years later, Sanjay is one of them. His daughter Avani, diagnosed at age three, has grown up watching that journey from the other side: as someone who has lived with vitiligo since before she could spell the word. The two of them built VitiligoMart together to publish the resource they each wished they had, on the timeline they each needed it.
The result is a site that covers the three pathways people with vitiligo actually face, grounded in current clinical evidence, written in plain language, and shaped by lived experience that we never pretend is anything else.
Sanjay Chandel
Eighteen years of depigmentation, documented
Sanjay discovered his vitiligo at twenty-four. He spent more than a decade exploring repigmentation options before deciding, in 2008, to fully depigment with monobenzone. The eighteen years since have given him a perspective on depigmentation therapy that almost no other public voice in the vitiligo space holds: what the timeline really looks like in the months, the years, and the decades that follow.
On VitiligoMart he writes the depigmentation pathway content. On YouTube he produces video education at The Vitiligo Experience, where he answers the questions people are usually too uncertain to ask in clinical settings. He also runs Facebook communities for people on the same path.
Outside VitiligoMart, Sanjay works as an architect and PMP-certified project manager. He is based in Dubai.
Avani Chandel
Vitiligo since age three, growing up with the questions
Avani was diagnosed with vitiligo at three years old. She has no memory of life without it. The questions, the second glances, the well-meaning advice from people who did not understand the condition: all of that was part of her childhood, and watching her father navigate his own treatment choices was part of how she came to think about the difference between medical fact and lived reality.
She co-founded VitiligoMart with him to build the resource her younger self, and the parents of her younger self, would have benefited from. Today she leads the brand’s content strategy, partnerships, and editorial direction, with particular focus on bringing evidence-based vitiligo information to under-served regions including the Middle East, India, and South Asia.
Avani holds a BSc in International Business from Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she graduated in 2025. She is based in Dubai.
The three pathways people with vitiligo actually face
We organise the site around the three real choices, not around clinical taxonomies. Each pathway has a hub, in-depth guides, evidence summaries, and product reviews where they apply.
Repigmentation
For people pursuing or considering treatments that aim to restore pigment. NB-UVB phototherapy, excimer laser, topical therapies, JAK inhibitors, and the current investigational pipeline.
Explore repigmentation →Depigmentation
For people considering or living with depigmentation as a treatment choice. Monobenzone, side effects, aftercare, the emotional and practical reality of the years that follow. Our specialty area.
Explore depigmentation →Living with Vitiligo
For people whose focus is acceptance, sun protection, camouflage, and the day-to-day of moving through the world with visible vitiligo. The path neither treatment offered, or chose, often comes first.
Explore living with vitiligo →Evidence-based, lived-experience-informed, never the two confused for each other
We work from a clear source hierarchy on every treatment-related guide we publish: peer-reviewed clinical research first, recognised clinical guidelines second, specialist textbooks and expert commentary third, and lived experience last and always labelled as such. Personal experience adds context that clinical writing often lacks. It does not replace it.
We date every article with both the publication and last-reviewed date. We update materially when new evidence changes our position. We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. Affiliate revenue, where it exists, does not influence what we recommend or how we describe it.
We are not clinicians. Our content is educational and informational. Decisions about your own treatment belong in a clinical relationship with a qualified dermatologist.
We do not promise outcomes. We do not sell hope. We do not promote treatments we would not consider for ourselves.
